Join us for the return of our Regency Tea Dance here in York! Come and celebrate May Day with an afternoon of beautiful regency dance!
Come along to dance, socialise and meet new people at this inclusive event where the elegance of the early 19th century comes alive!
Have you ever wanted to learn the dances of Jane Austen or take to the dance floor in true Bridgerton style?! If so then be sure to join us as we learn some of the popular dances of the Regency period!
Whether you are a seasoned dancer or a curious novice, Lottie will be there to guide you through all the steps! Just put on your best dress (regency costume encouraged but not essential) and your dancing shoes!
Tea, Coffee and Cakes will be provided in the interval.

Please wear sensible shoes for dancing and I would encourage you to bring water with you (although a kitchen is avaiable on site to access water and refill waterbottles if necessary). Regency Costume is highly encouraged.
If you don’t have a costume then don’t worry- there’s no requirement to dress up just come in something smart and comfy! If you’re looking for a costume the York Theatre Royal provides a fabulous costume service for hire and Amazon provides basic “regency” dresses which are easy to accessorize.
No need to worry- theres no need to bring a partner! Regency dancing is a very sociable activity and everybody who wishes to dance shoudl be able to dance.
This event is entirely suitable for beginners. All the dances will be “called” which means I’ll teach you them beforehand and call out instructions during the dancing to keep you on track.
We will be using pre-recorded music in order to keep costs down. We hope you understand. I will be teaching these dances live.
The event is taking place at St Lawrence Community Hall, Lawrence Street, York, YO10 3WP. St Lawrence Community Hall is easy to access by car, on foot, or via public transport. They’re located on York’s inner ring road, just outside the city walls. There are plenty of parking spaces at the Hall, either to the rear of the Hall itself, or behind the Church. There is a bus stop just outside the Hall, with frequent service to the city centre. They’re approximately 10 minutes by bus from York Rail Station, and 5 minutes from York University.
