About the event

York: Present and Future Flooding
At the 2026 Residents' Festival, find out how and why York floods, and what the future might bring.

About this Event

York has always flooded and probably always will. Join York’s Hidden History for a guided walk exploring how the city has had to adapt in recent years to try and mitigate the worst of these events. Find out how and why the city floods, explore different kinds of flood defence schemes in operation and discuss what the future may bring.

This guided walk starts in North Street Gardens and finishes at Rowntree Park, taking around 2 hours. The route is not step-free. The walk is aimed at people aged 11+ and there is no fixed ticket price – please donate whatever you feel you can pay.

Please note: in the event of high river levels, the route might need to be modified.
