- **Event Description**: Discover the History of Christmas in an extra-special walking tour through the twinkling streets of York.

Join Sarah, your professional Blue Badge Tourist Guide, in a 90 minute Festive Walk through the twinkling streets of York, the original Christmas City.

For nearly 2000 years, York has been witness to the winter celebrations of Kings and Emperors, Warriors and the custodians of this festive city. We'll hear how ancient beliefs and ceremonies have created the traditions we still practice today.

Beginning our tour in the shadow of the mighty gothic Minster, discover who really gave us Christmas. Find out if it true that York was home to the first ever Christmas celebrations exactly 1500 years ago. Hear the tale of how Rudolph got his red nose and all about the grinch who tried to cancel Christmas. Join me in the stunning assembly hall where a famous Victorian author read his stories in York and made us a present of Boxing Day.

Make unforgettable memories of Christmas 2025 by immersing yourself in the spirit of Christmas Past. A feast for the senses: Stunning Christmas lights and decorations, church bells and carols, the smells of cinnamon and pine. To end we'll gather around the Christmas Tree where you might want to treat yourself to a mulled wine or hot chocolate.
