- **Event Description**: SAVE THE DATE! Saturday July 25th 4-8. Blue Door Gallery is pleased to welcome Rakel Seneca from Copenhagen, Denmark. We are hosting a reception of Bouquet of Faces with Rakel in person and her recent body of work. Rakel’s exhibit is a perfect complement to our summer exhibit with Kelly Jo Shows. Two realist painters with alluring intellect that reflects objects with human connection. Meet them both! Live Jazz, complimentary beverages and small bites will be offered. Open to all. 

Rakel Seneca (b. 1999) is a Copenhagen-based artist specialising in oil painting. She employs painting techniques rooted in realist traditions to construct scenes that are rich in symbolism and hover at the very edge of normal life. Her works often depict everyday objects and situations placed in subtly surreal or theatrical settings, giving life to images that are simultaneously familiar and unsettling.
At the center of Seneca's practice is an exploration of the definitional aspects of the human condition, probing themes of vulnerability, identity, love, overthinking, and the fragility of human connection. Seneca forgoes the obvious, instead weaving subtle tension through striking colour palates, a sharp artistic eye, and deliberately ambiguous moments that invite viewers to interpret the narrative through their own experiences.
Many of her recent works seek to evoke dissonant feelings in the viewer: naïveté and cynicism, insecurity and confidence, the internal and the external.
She achieves this aim through the use of recurring motifs like balloons, curtains, and hearts. Through these images Seneca seeks to capture the quiet psychological complexity that often belies seemingly simple situations.
Her work is informed by close observation of people and everyday interactions, shaped by her years living in India, London, and Jordan. These experiences deepened her interest in universal human experiences that emerge independent of geography, age, or an increasingly digitalised and polarised world.
Seneca completed a foundational year at The Art Academy London in 2016, and has since honed her craft through diligent self study. In 2025 she held two exhibitions at Galleri Symbol in Copenhagen. In 2026 she will exhibit twice again at Galleri Symbol and at Monday Studio in Copenhagen, in addition to a multi-page feature in Monday Studio's art magazine. Her paintings are held in private collections in Denmark, India, Jordan, the United States, and England.
