Yet for older people in underserved communities, opportunities to engage in health-promoting activities are often limited by poverty, social isolation, inaccessible environments, and competing priorities such as choosing between heating and food. Activities that lack personal meaning may further reduce motivation and wellbeing.This lecture critically examines the concept of occupational justice, the right of all people to participate in meaningful daily activities they want, need, and are expected to do to reach their full potential. It explores how occupational injustice contributes to health inequalities and considers the implications for healthy ageing, particularly when working with older adults in underserved communities.SpeakerNicola Plastow is an Associate Professor of occupational therapy and clinical academic at Stellenbosch University in South Africa.
