The first section of the Minster Way starts from York Minster. From there we will make our way to the riverside and walk along the river past Millennium Bridge and into Fulford. We then cross the A64 using the overpass and leave the city behind. The rest of the walk is on a mixture of very flat farm tracks and good paths and skirts the edge of Fulford Golf Club before passing the site of special scientific interest at Heslington Tillmire. We then continue on quiet farm tracks and country paths past Gill Wood and Grimston Wood. Just before the end of the walk we cross Millfield Wood and Scoreby Wood before walking into Kexby to catch the bus back to York.
🪧 Meet by the statue of Constantine in the south piazza outside York Minster. Please arrive ready to walk, and buy any supplies/drinks before joining the group at 10:00.
🅿️ There is very limited on-street parking in Kexby so I would recommend parking in York or using the Park and Ride (Grimston Bar). Please allow plenty of time to park before the start of the walk as the Christmas market is on and York is likely to be very busy.
🚌 There are plenty of public transport options to get to the start of the walk in York. At the end of the walk we will catch the X46 or X47 back into York. Buses run every 30 minutes on Sundays. For those using the park and ride at Grimston Bar, both buses stop nearby at Bingley House Farm which is about half a mile away.
🐶 Dogs are welcome but keeping them on a lead is recommended
🚻 Public toilets are available in central York (for a charge). There are no toilet facilities on the rest of the walk
🥾 Boots are recommended as the walk is likely to be muddy in places.
🥪 Please bring a packed lunch. If you would like to buy anything in York, please do it before meeting the group at York Minster.
🍺 There are no refreshment options in Kexby, but we could head back into York and have a drink somewhere in town.
