Bach’s masterpiece for double chorus and orchestra performed by York Musical Society chorus and orchestra, directed by David Pipe and supported by a stellar group of professional soloists.

Hear the dramatic telling of the Passion of Christ as described in the Gospel of St Matthew, as he is betrayed, tried, crucified and entombed. 

York Minster is the appropriately magnificent setting for this monumental choral work. Part One tells the story of the betrayal and arrest of Jesus; Part Two turns darker and softer as it depicts his trial, crucifixion and burial. 

The Evangelist, sung by a Tenor, narrates the Gospel text, while the words of Jesus are sung by a Bass. A double chorus and orchestra, an additional soprano chorus and four additional soloists combine to make this a must-hear masterpiece.
