**Acomb Through Time is a walking tour of Acomb, starting and finishing at Acomb Explore Library. It is a paid, ticketed event - please book your tickets in advance via the booking link.**
York’s historic city centre is fascinating, but its suburbs have their own rich histories stretching back thousands of years. In ‘Acomb Through Time’ we’ll take a deep dive into the story of Acomb.
Acomb Through Time lasts two hours, with a short introductory talk at Acomb Explore, a walk around Acomb lasting around an hour, and complimentary tea and coffee back at the library. Participants will have the chance to peruse maps, books and specimens relating to Acomb Through Time, and to chat with Drs Herringshaw and Rogerson, as well as fellow participants. The walk follows a step-free route around the historic village, and is suitable for all ages.
Exploring the geography, history and archaeology of the parish, we’ll show how Acomb’s Ice Age origins can still be seen today, and explain why the area was of great interest to early Earth scientists. Whilst searching for Roman villas, medieval manors, and Yarcomb Sand’ole, we’ll mention poet laureates, Earth-Quakers, racehorses and Anglo-Saxon princesses. We might even find ourselves in the Acomb Peculiar Court!
