The 19-piece Compaq Big Band LOVES oceanfront venues, and this one did not disappoint us on our first three performances there in ‘21, '22, and ‘24 (sadly, rained out in ’23 & ‘25).  Fingers crossed for great weather in ’26 when we’re back on the Ellis Park Bandstand at *MAGNIFICENT* Short Sands Beach in York, Maine on Friday July 10th! This is a FREE public concert brought to you by the Town of York Maine Parks & Rec Department  – just bring a blanket and/or lawn chair. 

The show runs 6:30pm-8:30pm. Weather permitting only. Check our web site and Facebook page (listed below) for weather updates – no news means we’re ‘on’.

The bandstand is right on the water, located along Ocean Avenue/Route 1A. Use “Ellis Park, Ocean Avenue, York, ME” for navigation.  Parking is available at the Short Sands lot – they accept the ParkMobile, LLC - USA app (Zone 79892) and credit card only – make sure you note your parking spot number to pay up at the kiosk with credit cards. Since some folks report spotty cell service right around Short Sands, save time by downloading and installing the Parkmobile app in advance of your trip.  Please observe all Residents-Only signs if you use on-street parking.

Out in front that evening swingin’ with the sand ‘n’ surf will be vocalist Elizabeth Embser, performing selections from jazz greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Natalie Cole, Dianne Schuur, Tierney Sutton and more. We’ll also be hittin’ the audience with some of our best instrumental arrangements, too - think Count Basie, Gordon Goodwin, Chris Walden, plus a few more surprises.

Several great places to catch sustenance and/or libation such as the Union Bluff Hotel & Meeting House, and the York Beach Beer Company, are within a few blocks’ walk of the bandstand.

Elizabeth Embser is a rising vocalist, composer, and educator residing in Greater Boston. She received a Bachelors in Vocal Performance from Ithaca College, and more recently obtained a Masters in Jazz Performance from the New England Conservatory. Sharing and expressing music has become an intrinsic part of her life. In addition to teaching at NEC Prep and singing with local jazz and classical groups, her own jazz quartet has performed at the famed Mad Monkfish in Cambridge, MA,
