Wolds Workshop is pleased to offer a 1 - day practical taster course, which aims to introduce you to the traditional craft of painting on glass, as well as the leaded glass technique. Taught by professional stained-glass artist and conservator, Helen Bower.
Learning outcomes:
This class will guide students through the traditional techniques of glass painting, using examples of medieval glass painting applications as inspiration. You will also learn how to cut glass, and how to cut and shape lead to construct a simple leaded glass panel, incorporating your painted glass within it. At the end of the day, you will have your own painted, stained, and leaded glass panel to take home and display, approximately 220mm X 220mm.
This course is not advisable for anyone who may be pregnant, due to the use of lead-base materials.

As an experienced craftswoman Helen has been working in the field of stained-glass for the last twenty-five years, including working on glass from medieval to modern at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, and York Minster, as well as in commercial workshops in Worcestershire, Lancashire, and Yorkshire. She has a degree in 3-Dimensional Glass Design, a Master’s Degree in Stained Glass Conservation and Heritage Management, and is also a Fellow for the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. Alongside teaching she creates bespoke commissions and off-the-peg pieces, from her York Based workshop.
