☀️Announcing ticket sales launch for the forthcoming ¡Tropica! Live! concert @rise_bluebird☀️

We are delighted to bring the superstar Congolese group KASAI MASAI @kasai_masai_official back to York and, after the large audience we hosted last June when the band first played here, we expect a fast take-up ?

So grab yours as soon as you can because we’re keeping numbers down for comfort’s sake and when they’re gone, they’re gone! The first ten tickets just sold in the first three hours!
This is a standing concert ONLY as last time we felt the space at Rise was too crowded with tables and dancers - so get your dancing shoes at the ready ? 

KASAI MASAI are THE premier Congolese group playing in the UK, the music they play is called soukous, a heady blend of Latin beats, intertwining guitars, call-and-response vocals and uptempo dance rhythms. Featuring ace guitarist Otis Lumumba, who toured the world as a member of globally-renowned band Wenge Musica. Otis’s sinuous & sublime playing style is an aural delight guaranteed to move your feet. Lead vocalist and able frontman Nickens Nkoso shines with a strong voice, gentle humour and amiable audience engagement (and great dancing, of course) ? 

Nickens has worked alongside a stellar array of international Congolese artists including Kanda Bongo Man, Koffi Olomide, Papa Wemba, Madilu System, Canta Nyboma, Mose Fan Fan and Samba Mapangala. The all-important rhythm section comprises Claude Bula, a bassist who’s very highly-regarded amongst his peers and Jean-Claude Mulumba on drums whose CV includes a period playing with the Tanzanian star and big WOMAD/Real World (+personal) favourite Remmy Ongala’s Orchestre Super Matimila. 

KASAI MASAI also tour with Congolese superstar and one of soukous music’s biggest names: Kanda Bongo Man ?

Outside of London it’s not often you get to see a band of this quality in an intimate cafe-bar atmosphere so grab your tickets because they’ll be selling fast!
