The American University of Armenia (AUA) is pleased to host the kick-off event of the Center for Ethics in Public Affairs (ETICA), established with a €2.5 million grant from Horizon Europe’s prestigious European Research Area (ERA) Chair program. Based at AUA’s Turpanjian Institute of Social Sciences, the Center is the first of its kind in the Republic of Armenia and is pioneering in its breadth and scope in the region.

ETICA is led by ERA Chair, Professor of philosophy Maria Baghramian, with AUA Assistant Professor Dr. Arshak Balayan serving as the deputy director of the Center and project coordinator.

The research theme of the project, which will be carried out over the next five years,  is “Trust and Hope in a Time of Crises.” Armenia, like the rest of the world, is facing a multiplicity of crises in the socio-political, media, climate, and other environmental landscapes, to name a few. The project will conduct its primary activities of research, teaching, outreach to the general public, academic reform, and communication through a number of work packages where Professor Maria Baghramian, Dr. Arshak Balayan, Alen Gasparian Amirkhanian, Dr. Knar Khachatryan, and Narek Ghazaryan act as work package leaders. During the event, the leaders will introduce the plans for their work packages. 

The public launch event will take place on May 22 at 4:00 p.m. in Manoogian Hall, followed by a reception.
