- **Event Description**: The NSW Safer Drivers Course teaches learner drivers under 25 to develop safe driving skills and prepare for driving solo.About this EventYouth Futures: Safer Driver's workshopDate: 14 October 2026Time: 10am -2.30pm or 6.30pm if you are drivingWhere: Yagoona Community Hub, 176D Cooper Road Yagoona NSW 2199Cost: depends on eligibility - please reach out to Michelle O'Connorto seek advice 9707 5587Age: 15 - 24 years oldWhat is the safer drivers course?The NSW Safer Drivers Course teaches learner drivers under 25 to develop safe driving skills and prepare for driving solo.This course can help you understand speed management, gap selection, hazard awareness, safe following distances, and how to keep driving safely when you get distracted.This includes:A group discussion with other learners + guests presentersThe driving session can be attended on different day - Onroad will contact you to organise a suitable time.To attend a course you need to:have a valid learner licencebe under 25have completed at least 50 log book hours of on-road driving (excluding any 3 for 1 bonus hours), andhave included night driving in some of those hours.Bonus hoursIf you complete the NSW Safer Drivers Course, you will earn 20 bonus hours of log book credit. The course has been designed for a learner to attend once, so the 20 bonus hours will only count towards your log book once.You would then need to finish 100 hours of supervised driving outside the course. If you also have 10 structured lessons with a licensed driving instructor, you'll only need to do 70 hours of supervised driving - because these lessons also earn you bonus hours.Free Safer Drivers CourseIf you're from a disadvantaged background or an Aboriginal community, you may be eligible to attend a NSW Safer Drivers Course for free.Each year, the NSW Government offers 1000 free places for the course. This allows people who may not have the same opportunities as others to benefit from the road safety outcomes of the course.To be eligible for a place you need to:have a valid learner licencebe under 25have completed at least 50 log book hours of on-road driving (excluding any 3 for 1 bonus hours)have included night driving in some of those hourshold a current Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card issued by the Department of Human Services – Centrelinkbe currently or formerly in Out of Home Care (OOHC).To apply for a free place, you need to complete a Safer Drivers Course Concession Application Form.Driving session: There will be two dates to pick from 14 and 18 Ocotber and a number of times to choose from. Please note for childre protection reasons you will be matched with another young person. There will be two young people in the car with the driving instructor. There are limited spots for each session.Lunch will be providedTerms and Conditions:This activity is for young people who live or study within Canterbury-Bankstown LGA.Cancellation PolicyIf you can no longer attend the activity, registered participants must notify michelle.oconnor@cbcity.nsw.gov.au in writing, no less than 48-hours prior to the event taking place, in order to receive a full refund.No shows or cancellations received after this 48-hour period are not eligible for any refund.For further information, email michelle.oconnor@cbcity.nsw.gov.au
