About this EventThis is a GREAT trip to get you started backpacking! It is designed specifically for beginner hikers and backpackers. This small-group trip is all about hands-on education, ensuring you are empowered and prepared! (Possibly for future intermediate trips) We limit the group size to offer plenty of hands-on help for everyone.
This trip focuses on education and ensuring you have time for quiet reflection, connection with others, and rest. The camping location has no facilities and NO cell service.
Your safety and enjoyment are my top priority! Your trip is led by an experienced and certified guide who ensures a safe, fun, and informative tour.
What's Included:
- Backpacking 101 Online Seminar: A pre-recorded seminar is sent to you after registration (at least 30 days before the trip). This seminar teaches you what and how to pack, what to expect, and includes a complete Packing List. Reviewing this fully is mandatory for trip preparation.
- Hands-on Trail Learning: All training is included! You'll learn: Camp setup (tents, sleeping systems). Water filtration, bear bag setup, and Leave No Trace principles. Supper preparation with camp stoves and rehydrating food
- Guide & Safety Gear: Your guide is equipped with bear safety information, bear spray, a comprehensive first aid kit, and first aid training.
Participants Must Provide:- Personal Gear: We STRONGLY recommend lightweight backpacking gear. Some items may need to be bought, rented, or borrowed. (I have lightweight, tents, stoves, airmattresses and sleeping bags for your use, and will reach out to confirm what loaner gear you need.)
- Food for the duration of the trip. Tips on meal planning are provided in your seminar, and a complete meal plan can be purchased for an additional cost.
- Transportation to the trailhead.
- Permit: You are required to purchase a Public Land Camping Permit that you must carry with you.
- Personal attire. is mandatory. I strongly recommend dressing in layers to easily adapt to constantly changing weather conditions.
Itinerary:Pre-Trip: Review the Backpacking 101 Online Seminar and organize your gear.
Day 1: Meet at trailhead at 8:30 AM (for gear rental/packing assistance) or 9:00 AM (general start)
4 km hike into the camping spot. Lunch on the trail or at camp.
Camp set-up Learn where and how to set up tents and sleeping area.
1 km hike to James Falls with snack break and time to enjoy the falls.
Hike back to camp. Learn about water filtration, bear bag set-up and leave no trace principals.
Supper. Hands-on learning about camp stoves and re-hydrating food.
Relaxation, enjoying the lake and campfire.
Day 2
Breakfast. Coffee, morning meal, and repack.
Optional Yoga/Stretching. Enjoy our morning at the lake. Cleanup campsite.
Hike approx 6 km loop around the lake and back to the parking lot.
Goodbye: 3:00pm approximate end time.
Communication & Logistics- All essential logistics, including directions and map to the trailhead and exact meet-up times, will be provided via email 7 days before the trip.
- Please ensure you provide a correct email address and phone number for these essential updates.
Policies- Emergency Policy: For your safety, we require up-to-date medical and emergency contact information for every hiker. This information is logged with a designated check-in person prior to the hike.
- Cancellation Policy: Refunds can only be issued 30 days out or more. We do not cancel for weather. We go rain or shine unless it is dangerous conditions.
