Join the Ohio Latino Affairs Commission at Hispanic Legislative Visit Day on Thursday April 25th at the Ohio Statehouse!

About this Event

The Ohio Latino Affairs Commission invites the community to connect with their State Representatives during Hispanic Legislative Visit Day! This is an opportunity to meet and connect with your legislators to discuss issues important to you, while also learning about important policy areas that impact our Hispanic and Latino communities.

Please complete your registration and opt to set up a meeting with your legislators.

Throughout the day you will also have the option to attend panels and workshop sessions as outlined on the agenda below. A follow up email will go out to all registered attendees on workshop updates.

8 :00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. Registration/Continental Breakfast

8:45 a.m. - 8:55 a.m. Welcome Remarks

9 :00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Education Panel

2 :30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Optional) Attend Senate & House Session, and/or attend House & Senate Committee meetings, and/or attend scheduled meetings with legislators.

*Please note: scheduled meetings with legislators will take place throughout the day. Participants will return to the Statehouse Atrium and join larger group between meetings or attend workshop sessions. An updated agenda on workshop location rooms will be sent out prior to the event.

The Ohio Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs was created in 1977 with seventeen mandates proscribed in sections 121.32 and 121.33 of the Ohio Revised Code.  These mandates fall into one of three categories:TO ADVISEthe Governor, the Ohio General Assembly, and state government agencies on all matters affecting Hispanic Ohioans, by issuing reports, proposing programs, commenting on legislation, and conducting policy-related research.TO CONNECTthe diverse Latino communities across the State of Ohio by serving as a hub of information for and about Hispanic Ohioans by hosting meetings, conducting surveys, promoting collaboration, encouraging communication, and endeavoring to assure access to decision-making bodies.TO BUILDthe capacity of Latino community organizations, especially those of, for, and by Hispanic Ohioans, by applying for and accepting grants in partnership with organizations, subcontracting programs to local groups, and conducting education programs to enhance and strengthen community organization staff and leadership.
