The 2026 season of Polish Cinema for Beginners continues with a screening of “Leon” directed by Wojciech Gostomczyk, celebrating Pride Month!

We present to you a bold and intimate documentary portrait of one of the most uncompromising figures of Polish performance art.

ABOUT THE FILM

“Leon” follows the performance artist Leon Dziemaszkiewicz, whose radical, bodily-driven practice constantly pushes against the boundaries of social norms, stage performance, and personal identity. His work exists in a space where performance and life blur: intense, physical, often deliberately provocative.

At the centre of the film is not only Leon’s artistic output, but also his complex relationship with fashion legend Manfred Thierry Mugler, who becomes both a partner and a symbolic mirror of his creative ambitions. Their relationship reveals a shared obsession with transformation, spectacle, and the pursuit of artistic totality.

Gostomczyk’s documentary unfolds as a close, observational study of an artist in constant motion, negotiating visibility, vulnerability, and the cost of living life as permanent performance.

This time, we’re moving to a new venue: Klubokawiarnia Recepcja, where the whole team will be present, and we’ll be there to hear your thoughts and comments in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. No stage, no microphones — just a casual continuation of the conversation within the club ?

WHO ORGANISES IT?

Polish Cinema for Beginners is organised entirely in English, making it one of the first film initiatives in Poland designed especially for non-Polish speakers. The project invites both locals and internationals to discover Polish cinema together on the big screen.
