Three Indonesian artists representing Jogja Disability Arts: Wiji Astuti, Triarani Utami and Nano Warsono, will facilitate a batik making workshop where participants can learn basic batik techniques creating 2 decorated fabric triangles as part of the Tambalan international artists exchange. One triangle will be for you to take home and one will be stitched into the Tambalan quilts to be created and exhibited in Wales and Indonesia.Tambalan is an Indonesian batik pattern of triangles to promote healing. The project is working with disabled artists in Wales and Indonesia to create 3 Tambalan blankets looking at developing themes of:Seen - who is visible and who remains unseen?Heard - whose stories are told and whose are missing?Embraced - care that holds communities togetherDuring June, July and August the Triangles will be created in both countries and stitched together to be exhibited in Wales in Autumn 2026 and in Indonesia in 2027. Artist exchange has been funded by Arts Council Wales, this community workshop is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund in Wales.
