- **Event Name**: Textile Threads
- **Event Start and End Date**: Thu, 18 Jun, 2026 at 10:00 am – Sat, 20 Jun, 2026 at 10:00 am
- **Event Description**: Jane Rivers
Artist Jane Rivers, a graduate of the BA (Hons) in Textile Design at Northbrook works primarily with textiles, natural dyes, and slow, integrated methods that explore how cloth can hold memory, transformation, and ecological connection. Each piece begins with the material itself - fibres, plant colour, and place - evolving through process and ethical choice.
From growing flax to papermaking, natural dyeing, and experimentation, materials are continually investigated and reimagined. Sustainability, natural resources, and low impact processes inform and honour the origins and lifecycles of the materials used.
The practice is rooted in a deep engagement with materials, process, and place.
Michelle Wilcock
Artist Michelle Wilcock is currently studying for a BA (Hons) in Textile Design at Northbrook. Inspiration for The Dollar Princess emerged following a visit to Kenwood House, where she encountered John Singer Sargent’s portraits of American heiresses.
Motivated by a desire to reinterpret these ‘Old Master’ paintings for a contemporary audience, Wilcock experiments with collage and screen printing to create a modern visual language. The decision to frame the artwork in a manner reminiscent of stately home displays enhances a sense of grandeur and wealth, echoing the opulence of the original portraits.
The exhibition pieces combine digital and cyanotype printing techniques, enriched with hand-applied embellishments including beads, hand embroidery, and machine stitching. This layered approach brings depth, texture, and a tactile quality to the work, bridging historical influence with contemporary textile practice.
Susan Reid
Artist Susan Reid is currently studying for a BA (Hons) in Textile Design at Northbrook. Her practice is driven by themes of sustainability and recycling, focusing on the creation of unique, one-off pieces through the repurposing and reuse of natural materials. Through careful design and mindful exploration, the inherent qualities of these materials guide the evolution of form and shape.
Reid works by twisting and looping silk threads and fabric together with wool and wire, creating richly textured, three-dimensional accessories. These pieces can be worn as jewellery or attached to clothing, combining tactile interest with versatility. Each work celebrates the ethos of repurposing, offering the wearer the opportunity to take pride in sustainable design while enjoying subtle pops of colour and thoughtfully composed natural materials.

This exhibition marks the first collaborative showcase for the three artists.
