Steve Gallagher: In Bloom

Steve Gallagher presents a distinctive series of photographic works that bridge contemporary image-making and classical painting. Each piece is produced with archival pigments on fine art paper and sealed with multiple coats of archival varnish—a treatment that creates the depth and permanence you’d expect from painted surfaces.

The decision to display these works without glass changes everything. Free from reflective barriers, the photographs reveal their pure, luminous qualities in ways traditional framing simply can’t match. The varnished surface catches and holds light differently throughout the day, so the viewing experience shifts subtly with changing conditions.

Steve’s process honours painterly tradition while embracing what photography can do.
