Using your senses, you’ll notice the changing seasons, native plants, textures, colours, sounds and the traces left behind by both nature and people.Through a series of relaxed creative activities, you’ll experiment with different ways of recording the landscape and create your own collection of botanical artwork, prints, words and observations inspired by this special place.No art, writing or heritage experience is needed. The emphasis is on curiosity, noticing and personal connection rather than creating something ‘perfect’.During the workshop you’ll:• Begin with a gentle grounding activity in the woodland and take time to arrive, breathe and notice your surroundings.• Create your own ‘Pocket Full of Curiosity’ by collecting observations, words, sketches, colours, textures, sounds or naturally fallen objects that catch your attention.• Make botanical plaster castings using leaves, grasses, seed heads and wildflowers to capture the delicate details of the landscape.• Experiment with gel plate nature printing, creating layered botanical prints inspired by the patterns, textures and colours found around the woodland and gardens.• Gather around the fire for lunch and use your observations to create a short piece of nature-inspired writing, poetry, reflection or sketchbook work.• Explore how landscapes hold memories, change through the seasons and become part of the heritage we pass on to future generations.What will I make?You’ll leave with a collection of creative responses to Laudato Si' Centre which may include a botanical plaster casting, botanical gel print, nature-inspired writing or poetry, and personal observations or sketches.With your permission, selected work may also be included in the Laudato Si' Centre Heritage Project exhibition in December, helping to show the many different ways people have connected with the landscape.Who is this for?This workshop is for anyone who would enjoy spending time in nature and exploring creativity in a relaxed and welcoming way. You do not need to consider yourself an artist, writer, naturalist or heritage expert, and no previous experience is required.What to bring / practical information• Please dress appropriately for spending time outdoors in the woodland and gardens and for the weather on the day.• Please bring a packed lunch.• Refreshments: Tea, Coffee, Biscuits• Some activities involve natural materials, clay, plaster and printing materials, so please wear clothing suitable for creative activities.The session is aimed at adults but children over the age of 10 are welcome to take part. Made possible thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.Please note that this takes place in an outdoor environment and there may be some changes to the event based on the weather on the day, so please come dressed appropriately and wear comfortable footwear.
