Join us in the inspiring surrounds of Worcester Cathedral for the World Premiere of 'Five Beacons of Light', a bold new 50' cantata from award-winning British composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad, with words by Di Sherlock. With professional choir Sonoro, Youth Choral Worcs, ESO ensemble, and conductor Neil Ferris (Director, BBC Symphony Chorus).
Five Beacons of Light is inspired by four iconic rock lighthouses - symbols of human endurance against overwhelming forces - whose stories are sung. It is both a celebration of the possible and a cry from the heart in the face of the climate emergency. The voices of young people championing life in all its fragile biodiversity are passionate and defiant. They ultimately are the hope for the future - the fifth Beacon of Light.
Five Days that Changed the World - Bob Chilcott: a sweeping and uplifting musical journey through five moments that reshaped humanity: the invention of the printing press, the abolition of slavery, the first powered flight, the discovery of penicillin, and the first human in space.
SONORO - the London-based professional choir renowned for its "outstandingly refreshing" sound (BBC Music Magazine) and "abundant vibrant colour" (The Guardian) marks its 10th anniversary with this commission. Co-Artistic Directors Neil Ferris and Michael Higgins.
Youth Choral Worcs - a 130-strong chorus of students and teachers from Worcestershire secondary schools and Worcester Cathedral Youth Choir, working with leading professional musicians, artists and ensembles.
ESO ensemble - string quintet and percussion formed of principals and players of the English Symphony Orchestra, with pianist Michael Higgins.
