It’s Turtle Time!
Welcome TurtleWatchers to a brand new nesting season for NSW TurtleWatch and our nesting marine turtles along the NSW coastline. We have now had 3 nets in the Clarence Valley area and we are looking for beach monitoring volunteers to keep an eye out for more nests. With the state of our beaches at the moment, this season it will be more important than ever to have as many people out walking our coastlines as we can, so we can ensure we can save as many nests as possible. So, we are once again asking locals to become citizen scientists and monitor your local beach for signs of nesting turtles and collect important data on potential threats on your beach, to help us guage the suitability of our beaches as nesting habitat, now and in the future. This will be an informal training session, to either act as a refresher course for pre-existing volunteers or to welcome and train new citizen scientists into all things TurtleWatch!
The training workshop will start out with some introductions into nesting in NSW, then dive right into a recap of last years numbers. Following this, the remainder of the workshop will focus on beach monitoring and teaching new volunteers how to do a beach patrol and reporting your walk, using the NSW TurtleWatch App. There will be time remaining at the end to help everyone to use the App and for questions. We will have a lucky door prize for one lucky attendee.
