    In this talk, Alessandra Chaves will share images from her different projects and discuss how working within a defined framework can help photographers create more cohesive and meaningful series. She’ll explain how having a clear idea, theme, or question to guide the work adds focus, intention, and depth, allowing images to build on one another and tell a more complete story. This approach contrasts with simply heading out to capture whatever appears, which can lead to spontaneous and sometimes striking photos, but often without the sense of direction or continuity that strengthens long-term artistic growth.

    Alessandra, a Davis resident, is a scientist specialized in insect taxonomy. In her her graduate studies and her day job, she has acquired vast experience in insect macrophotography for scientific publications. Since 2016, she has licensed various types of images for commercial and editorial use through stock agencies. Her stock photographs have appeared in magazines, books, newspapers, promotional materials, commercial websites, outdoor ads, commercial and personal blogs. She also writes weekly blog posts about different topics in photography."
