- **Event Description**: Father's Lines: Art & Conversation 2About this EventEnjoy an afternoon of poetry, visual art and conversation where artist Saranjit Birdi presents, explores and connects with the published works his late father.‘Father’s Lines’ is a combined-arts project interpreting the Punjabi works of acclaimed but lesser-known Punjabi author, Surjit Virdi (Birdi). Writing in India and England in the 1960s-70s, Birdi’s semi-autobiographical stories address issues which still resonate today, including family, mental health, sexuality and colonialism. Artist to artist, father to son, 'Father's Lines' explores his short stories through dance performance, bilingual print and sound installations, poetry and artist collaborations.Guest Speaker Dr. Manpreet Kaur Sahota (Canada) will present a case for highlighting the importance of Surjit Birdi's literature works and legacy.Saranjit will present the overall project and show a video presentation of performances and installations. This will be followed by poetry readings from local poets on the theme of 'Father' and finally a Q & A conversation.This event will also see the launch of Saranjit Bird's first book of published poems.Saranjit Birdi is a visual artist with background in architecture, dance and music practicing combined-arts.Dr Manpreet Kaur Sahota, Professor of the School of English and Liberal Studies, Seneca College, Toronto, Canada is a talk show host for Samundro Paar (Across the Oceans), REDFM Toronto.
