We are delighted to invite you to our concert exploring Musical Landscapes.
Our programme transports you to amazing and diverse places. We take you from London, with the Westminster Waltz to the open spaces of the Wild West with the film theme The Big Country. The landscape of the Scottish highlands is beautifully portrayed in the Lochnager Suite by Nigel Hess. You may be surprised to hear that this music has its origins in a children’s book written by King Charles when he was a young Prince of Wales! The instantly recognisable and atmospheric film music of Lawrence of Arabia takes you straight to the Arabian peninsula. We even have a trip to the moon!
We also celebrate awe inspiring natural phenomena, with music to evoke the majesty of the oceans and mighty rivers. We are particularly excited to be playing Vesuvius by Frank Ticheli - the power and energy of the volcano is set alongside everyday life in Pompeii in this exciting piece.
What better way to start the year, than to visit amazing places and marvel at the wonder of nature. And all from the comfort of the Harriet Walter Theatre!
