High Pop take their name from the two bands - Five O’Clock High and Vox Pop - that featured the late Michael Bailey on bass in the 80s/90s. Michael passed away in 2021, having suffered from pulmonary fibrosis for several years beforehand. 

Both bands were regular fixtures on the local scene and made some headway into London as well. Original members of both bands, John Rollinson and David Bailey, got together with legendary drummer Brett ‘Buddy’ Ascott, formerly of The Chords, who hit the charts with classic mod revival singles, Now It’s Gone, Maybe Tomorrow and Something’s Missing and John’s son, Ben, bass player with the band Gutlocker, to recreate the power pop sound of their former bands.

Joining High Pop this time is David Norgrove (ex-Body Politic) & Ady Evans (ex-The Perfect Circles)

The event will include:

• Prize raffle
• Licenced bar kindly provided by The Crown, Knaphill
• After-show party at The Crown, Knaphill

Both the Scout Hall and The Crown hold a special place in High Pop’s hearts, as they used to rehearse at one and drink at the other back in the day. So, they are right back where they started from this time.
