Led by Calvin Gardner, UF/IFAS Extension Faculty, this FREE workshop offers a practical introduction to backyard composting. Composting is an environmentally responsible way to reduce solid waste by turning food scraps and yard debris into a valuable resource for your garden. By composting, you can reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills while improving the chemical, physical, and biological health of your soil.
This class is ideal for residents who want to cut back on food waste, live more sustainably, or learn how to compost at home. Attendees will learn the basics of composting, how to build and maintain a compost system, and the many environmental benefits composting provides.
City of Winter Park residents who attend are eligible to receive a FREE backyard composter (limit one per household). Non-residents are welcome to attend but are not eligible to receive a composter.
Eligibility requirements for a free composter:
This program is sponsored by the City of Winter Park Natural Resources & Sustainability Department, the Winter Park Library, and UF/IFAS Extension Orange County.
