There's the man whose death—with one leg on the Polish side, one on the Czech—was an international incident. And there are the Germans who still haunt a region that not long ago they called their own.

A patchwork of interconnected stories, essays, and myths, House of Day, House of Night explores themes of history, identity, and the supernatural through local legends, folklore, and the lives of its inhabitants.


NCMA W-S Book Club

This spring, Book Club is 𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, exploring foreign landscapes both internal and external in search of the feelings and realizations that make us human. The book selections, all originally published in languages other than English, introduce us to characters and cultures different from those that occupy much of American and British literature. 

What do we gain when such stories are brought into English? How is our understanding of the world – and ourselves – affected by stories from other countries? Join us for what might be our most ambitious set of novels yet.
