I survived but there's millions upon millions out there wandering, crashing. And the dead people who've been part of the no-names history have Winona family in the streets today. And in between these threads of reality a story evolves. I can tell you the story of meeting Ernest Hemingway or Father Lesche who shot Bishop Heffron. But I've found my presentation is best when I describe the parameters of a schizophrenic mind. I am a sixty seven year old schizophrenic. I talk to dead people. I write books. --------------------- Talk #2: The Impostor Phenomenon: You’re Faking It and So Am I by Nikki Civettini Learn who experiences the impostor phenomenon (maybe even you!), why it affects so many people, what’s happening in the brain of an “impostor,” and why impostors keep on chugging, despite feeling like frauds. Dr. Nikki Civettini is a sociologist at Winona State University specializing in social psychology, family studies, gender, and sexuality. --------------------- Talk #3: New (Old) Stars, or What Happens to Stars When Their Partners Lose Control Most stars don't go around the galaxy on their own like the Sun does; most stars are part of binary pairs or more complicated relationships. One result of these patterns is that some stars end up dumping material on their partner, and over time that led to explosive outbursts. We should be able to see one of these things in the very near future. Harry Leckenby started out in astronomy and in some happy alternate universe is still there. In this universe, he's worked in space science, optics, physics, the postal service, K12 education, and he is now teaching classes in physics, math, and engineering at UW Stout, having lived in Winona since 2005 and thus counting as a recent emigre to a certain population of Winonans. --------------------- --------------------- Nerd Nite is a monthly talk series that takes place in over 100 cities world wide.
