Mark and his family are working with Renewal Canada, a non-profit volunteer agency based in Toronto that helps people connect with living kidney donors, and guide donors with complete confidentiality, and at no financial cost. Renewal will be coming to Winnipeg to host this kidney donation awareness event and swab drive for Mark.
Mark is 67 and lives in Winnipeg, where he cares for his 88-year-old widowed mother. He spent 50 years in hospitality and has always been active. He enjoys swimming, traveling, going on long fast-paced walks, and cooking large, memorable feasts for family and friends. He speaks about how his family supported him through his life-altering liver illness, and how the liver transplant gave him hope to regain the strength and abilities he lost. The resultant failure of his kidneys was another emotional blow, making full recovery more challenging. Together with his family, he begins the search for a kidney donor, hoping to reclaim the life he loves.
Anyone over 18 and in good health can apply. You don’t need to be a relative or have the same blood type.
• Kidneys from living donors last longer than those from deceased donors
• Recipients live longer, healthier lives than on dialysis.
