Human Rights Talks - Bethlehem Gebreyohannes and Monia Mazigh
Author Talks by Bethlehem Terrefe Gebreyohannes and Monia Mazigh
We are pleased to host two authors featured at this year’s THIN AIR, Winnipeg International Writers Festival: Bethlehem Terrefe Gebreyohannes and Monia Mazigh.
Author Bethlehem (Beth) Terrefe Gebreyohannes will be discussing her memoir Fire Walkers. Beth presents her harrowing experience, fleeing the military regime in Ethiopia with her family at the age of 14. Betrayed by guides hired to help her family trek across the Danakil Desert, they are robbed by bandits and lost in the desert without food or water. Finally, they are rescued by Afar tribesmen, who ensure their safe journey to Djibouti, from where they leave for Canada as refugees.
Come and hear this inspiring story of endurance and courage from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Beth’s book Fire Walkers will be available for purchase at the Boutique in English.
Monia Mazigh will be discussing her most recent publication Hope Has Two Daughters. This historical fiction is a journey of self-discovery for a mother and daughter, Nadia and Lila, rooted in two important moments in Tunisia’s history: the Bread Riots and the Arab Spring.
Monia will be speaking from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Monia’s book Hope Has Two Daughters will be available for purchase at the Boutique in French and English.
