Location: Valour Community Centre - Orioles Site 448 Burnell St, Winnipeg.

Come join us for an evening of learning about Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA)! You'll have a chance to hold steel sword trainers and learn about the equipment used for modern day western martial arts sword fighting using historical techniques from the 1500's to 1800's Europe as taught by instructors with over 75 years of combined sword fighting experience. 

Try out:

Italian Rapier! 
Spaces limited to a maximum 40 participants (20 for 7:30pm and 20 for 8:30pm). Students will get a chance to see what a beginner sword fighting class is like in a fun and friendly environment!

Italian Longsword!
Spaces limited to a maximum of 20 participants (10 for 7:30pm and 10 spots for 8:30pm). Students will get a chance to handle steel longswords and learn from our longsword instructors to see if they'd enjoy the full 10 week beginner longsword class.

Italian Smallsword!
Spaces limited to a maximum of 10 participants (10 for 7:30pm). See and learn about the sword that was the predecessor to the modern Olympic fencing weapons!

Italian Sabre!
Spaces limited to a maximum of 10 participants (10 for 8:30pm). See and learn about the living tradition and lineage of sabre fencing from the Italian military school: Scuola Magistrale Militare di Scherma, founded in Rome in 1884.

You can sign up for 2 of 4 classes! :)

Afterwards sign up for our regular spring semester which is one of the best valued programs in the city. Our semesters run 10 weeks long and it is possible to sign up for Smallsword and Sabre (Mondays 7:00pm - 9:00pm), beginner rapier at 7:00pm Wednesdays, and beginner longsword at 8:00pm Wednesdays for $150/class! That's only $15.00/hour for professional martial arts instruction! 

Not only will you gain the benefits of physical activity, you'll make new friends and get away from the computer/phone/tablet for a few hours. You'll also open up opportunities to participate in activities that Valour HEMA Academy is involved in such as the Cook's Creek Medieval Festival and tournaments where you can win prizes such as swords, armour, medals and more!

(Not so tiny fine print: $150/10 week class semester {rapier, longsword. or smallsword/sabre}, $25 equipment rental fee {once per semester if renting any equipment from VHEMAA}, $50 once/year membership insurance fee. Max cost if you want to take rapier and longsword and renting is $375) Standard liability waiver will be signed by all participants prior to taking any class with Valour HEMA Academy.

If you have previously participated in a free class you will only be eligible to participate if there are open spots after new participants have registered as we often fully fill up these free class nights.
