In our interconnected world, the concept of personhood transcends individual identity, encompassing the collective experiences and narratives that bind us. How then do we embrace this commitment for the sake of opening pathways toward peace, justice, and healing?
Dr. Watson argues that central to this pathway is the profound relationship between truth and trust. To build authentic trust -within our own selves, our communities, and across societies - we must courageously confront our collective historical narratives as they occurred. This means neither omitting nor sanitizing difficult truths but looking at them directly in the face with honesty and integrity. Dr. Watson’s discourse aims to inspire a collective commitment to nurturing a world where personhood is honored, diversity is celebrated, and peace is actively pursued.
Senior Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Vice Provost of Community Engagement, and Professor of Leadership and Change at Antioch University
As a Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Lemuel Watson brings an intercultural lens to his studies in peace leadership and organizational healing and has led cross-functional initiatives to advance access, equity, and organizational effectiveness. As a researcher and collaborator, he has secured more than $13 million in external funding and partnered with communities and institutions on projects to improve learning and work environments. At this stage of his vocation, Dr. Watson’s work is simple and yet complex: to cultivate peace and justice through leadership which he interprets as the disciplined practice of truth-telling, deep listening, and accountable collaboration.
