Winfield’s Memorial Park was founded on November 11, 1925, after years of debate and advocacy. This year, a celebration to honor our veterans as well as commemorate the centennial birthday of Memorial Park will be held on Veteran’s Day, November 11 at the park. This centennial event will commence with a musical prelude by the Winfield High School band at 10:45 a.m. The traditional tolling of the bell at 11 a.m. will honor the establishment of Armistice Day on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. This will be followed by speakers and proclamations. The public is encouraged to attend (limited seating will be provided for those from our Kansas Veterans Home – others are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs if wishing to sit.)
