Join us for the final Sofa Sunday of the year featuring music from Ali Enriquez and Ally Fiola & Behrooz Mihankhah!
Ally Fiola is a Nova Scotian saxophonist, film composer, and bandleader of the groove-based jazz ensemble, The Next Quest. On the heels of her Fall 2024 tour across Ontario and Alberta, her band 'The Next Quest' blends quirky melodies with joyous grooves inspired by funk, soul, and New Orleans brass bands. With a background including the Banff Centre for Arts & Creativity and performances in London and France, Ally’s artistry resonates worldwide, connecting diverse audiences through her expressive music.
Joining Ally is Behrooz Mihankhah! Behrooz is a celebrated Iranian Canadian, ECMA-nominated composer, and pianist based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Inspired by his migrations through Iran, India and finally to Canada, Behrooz fuses various musical traditions, compositional techniques, and improvisational schools of thought and brings together listeners of various backgrounds.
Ali Enriquez (24) is a multi-talented instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and arranger from Havana, Cuba. She began her musical training in the island, later relocating to Halifax with the backing of Los Primos Project. Ali focused on a music education in classical and jazz. She’s graced venues worldwide, from the Halifax Jazz Festival, to the Ravello Music Festival in Italy. Working with various ensembles including orchestras, big bands and small format groups, Ali’s genre-spanning performances captivate diverse audiences. For her post-secondary education in music, she attended Dalhousie University, later transferring to NSCC’s Music program, where she embarked on a solo career, releasing her debut single, “Se Vale Llorar”. Her first EP “Hidden” will be out in January 2025, showcasing her Latin folk roots and Nova Scotian influence.
