Coffee House Concert: John John Brown

John John Brown opens the season with an Americana adventure that’s part concert and part comic book come to life. Armed with his guitar and a storyteller’s heart, Brown delivers songs rich with humor and astute observations – drawing frequent comparisons to the late John Prine. In concert, he intertwines folk songwriting with original hand-drawn visuals, creating “an imaginative musical performance woven into a unique visual experience”. Audiences find themselves laughing one moment and moved the next as Brown explores the peculiar lives of everyday people with warmth and wit. “A melting pot of humor, longing, satire, and hope,” writes Music Mecca, inviting listeners to “explore the peculiar lives of individuals that, like us, don’t always have it easy”.

Brown’s storytelling prowess has earned him top honors on the folk circuit. He’s a Kerrville New Folk winner (2020) and a Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist (2017), and even performed at Woodstock’s 50th anniversary at Bethel Woods. His debut album The Road drew critical praise as “a blend of astute Americana accompanied by a quiet, reflective glow” (No Depression), and his latest songs are “so well written that every song could be a short story” (Americana UK). Northwest Park audiences can expect an evening of heartfelt ballads, and musical magic that will leave them both smiling and contemplative.
