- **Event Description**: Wansfell is one of the smaller Wainwright hills, situated in the southern Lake District, but don't be deceived by its apparent lack of height (487m), this route has a steep climb from the very start.

We will begin this 8-mile / 13km walk from the village of Ambleside, from the northern shore of Windermere. From here will begin our ascent onto Caudale Moor, following a stream up through some beautiful woodland and on to Wansfell Pike. This rocky summit will be in sight for much of the climb and will afford us some beautiful views as we reach it. A perfect place for a pit stop / brew with a view. The true summit of Wansfell is a short walk along the ridge, which we shall take before descending to Troutbeck on the other side of the spur. From Troutbeck we'll take a meandering route passing the National Trust site of Town End, a preserved traditional farmhouse. Our reutn journey will skim the edge of the moor and take us through the wild and magical Skelghyll Woods.

Despite the short distance and lack of mountain summits in this Lake District walk, the total elevation is 2,300ft / 396m, much of which is in the first couple of miles. This walk is therefore of moderate difficulty and is expected to take approx. 5.5 hours, including rest breaks.

Well behaved / friendly dogs (with people and other dogs) are welcome, but there will be a number of stiles and kissing gates to pass through, so dogs must be agile enough to get through them. We are likely to encounter livestock in places, so leads will be needed at times.

Please arrange your own transport and accommodation, if required. However, if you would like me to help arrange car pooling, this will be an option, also.
