These will include the Sacheverell riots, the Coronation riots, the Mug-house riots, the Nailers’ riots, the Luddites and much else, as well as the famous Russian Gun riot in Winchester and other less-well-known local uprisings.Rioting will be shown to be an essential factor in all political, social and economic change.Tickets include one free glass of wine, served on arrival from 6pm.Barry Shurlock has wide interests in the county’s history and has written for the Hampshire Chronicle and many other outlets. He grew up ‘opposite the Isle of Wight’ and read Natural Sciences at Cambridge.
