Complimentary Wine Tasting - Syrah Showdown!
This week, Grapenuts Presents a Syrah Showdown!
We will be pouring:
2016 Funk Zone Syrah
90% Syrah & 10% Viognier
Santa Barbara County, California
Funk Zone embodies the experimental spirit of Santa Barbara County winemaking with unique, boundary-pushing blends. In this case, we're talking about blending red and white grapes together, like the French do in the renowned wines of Côte-Rôtie. Each vintage of Funk Zone expresses the unconventional, funky and cool in its own way, and this blend is a fresh, progressive version of the old French hit. The grapes were sourced from our local Santa Barbara County, and fermented and aged 12 months in stainless steel for pure fruit flavors. Drink it with a disregard for the rules. 13.9% ABV
2017 Domaine des Amphores “Les Iris” Syrah
IGP Collines Rhodaniennes, Northern Rhone, France
From 100% Syrah in Chavanay, just outside the Saint-Joseph zone, tended organically since planting. The Amphores Syrah "les Iris" shows lovely blackberry and blueberry aromas with citrus and floral notes. The palate is light and refreshing with very pretty fruit - the flavors of Northern Rhone Syrah in a bright ready-to-drink style. This will be a great accompaniment to grilled foods and picnics, served quite cool. 12.5% ABV
2015 Milton Park Shiraz
The nose is lifted berry fruits, with hints of dark chocolate and spice. The palate is medium bodied with intense plummy fruit. This plummy fruit fills the whole palate and combined with the soft and approachable tannins creates a very mouth filling wine. The length of flavor is long with plumy and liquorice fruit and spicy oak. Aged 10 months in American oak. 14.5% ABV
2013 Tabali “Vetas Blancas” Reserva Especial Syrah
D.O. Valle de Limarí, Chile
The grapes for this wine were sourced from vineyards located in the coastal area of the Limarí Valley in the north of Chile. The grapes were handpicked, hand sorted and de-stemmed before undergoing a temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine then rests for 12 months in 100% French oak barrels; 50% new barrels, 25% second use and 25% third use. The result is an elegant, complex, ripe and rich Syrah with
layers of black cherries, violets, black pepper, a touch of smoke and spicy dark fruit aromas. On the palate, it is full bodied and well-balanced, with a smooth texture, velvety tannins and lots of fruit. 14% ABV
2014 Lujon Syrah
Walla Walla Valley, Wasington
This Syrah is produced from the highly-acclaimed Spofford Station Vineyard. A fruit forward style set in a firm but elegant frame. Blueberry, plum and vanilla entice the nose into full and round mouth feel with soft tannins that linger on the finish impeccably. It’s aged for 25 months in French oak barrels with approximately 10% new oak. 14.8% ABV
