Synopsis: In this hilarious and exhilarating story, the lives of six teenagers from a Canadian chamber choir are cut short in a freak accident aboard a roller coaster. When they awake in limbo, a mechanical fortune teller invites each to tell a story to win a prize like no other—the chance to return to life. Bursting with witty, memorable songs and featuring some of the most compelling characters in modern musical theatre, this remarkable show makes a uniquely uplifting and deeply funny case for what makes a life worth living.

WHEN:
Monday January 12th 6:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M. (Must Arrive and Check-In by 9 P.M.)
Tuesday January 13th 6:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M. (Must Arrive and Check-In by 9 P.M.)

Wilmington Drama League

WHAT TO PREPARE:
Please prepare 32 bars of a song of your choosing that should be as bold as the world of this show, or something you love to sing and that makes you happy. The nature of this boldness is up to you. The song should be from a musical other than Ride the Cyclone. Actors should provide clearly marked sheet music for the audition in a format that the accompanist can access easily. Please bring sheet music, an accompanist will be provided. If you’d prefer to audition with an accompaniment track, a Bluetooth speaker will be provided.

RIDE THE CYCLONE CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

THE AMAZING KARNAK (Any gender, non-singing role) – A mechanized fortune-telling machine who narrates the story. A rumbling voice with a steady, measured, calm inflection that exudes gravitas, but it is never pushed to comedic extremes. There is no archness in the voice. Think an ominous mechanical Santa Claus or God or Hal 3000.

OCEAN O’CONNELL ROSENBERG (Female-presenting, Alto/Soprano belter) – Type-A perfectionist. Overachiever. Self-proclaimed leader of the choir. Bright, peppy, and obnoxiously self-important.
MISCHA BACHINSKI (Male-presenting, Baritenor, rapper/folksinger) – Adopted Ukrainian bad boy with a soft heart, obsessed with rap music and autotune. Can rap and sing Ukrainian folk music.

NOEL GRUBER (Male-presenting, Tenor, smooth cabaret voice) – Hopeless romantic obsessed with French cinema. The only gay kid in town. Witty, cynical, and brooding.

RICKY POTTS (Male-presenting, Baritone, rock voice) – Dreamer of the group, formerly mute, has gained new abilities in the afterlife. Alternates between meek and heroic.

CONSTANCE BLACKWOOD (Female-presenting, Alto, rock voice) – The “Nice girl” and Ocean’s best friend, diminutive, hides a sense of rebelliousness.

JANE DOE (Female-presenting, Classical Soprano, operatic voice) – An unidentified student searching for her identity. Marked by replacing her decapitated head with that of her dolly’s. Eerie, haunting, and doll-like.
