# Event Details

- **Event Name**: Murrayville Tree Giveaway
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 07 Nov, 2026 at 09:00 am – Sat, 07 Nov, 2026 at 12:00 pm (-05:00)
- **Event Description**: In partnership with New Hanover County, the Alliance for Cape Fear Trees will be distributing 1,000 native canopy trees—free of charge!—to NHC residents!

This giveaway is focused first on Murrayville, a community with one of the sparsest tree canopies in New Hanover County. With canopy covering only about 13% of the area, Murrayville falls dramatically short of the 30–40% canopy often recommended for communities like it. The consequences can be felt on the ground: fewer trees mean less shade, hotter streets and homes, reduced stormwater absorption, and fewer of the health and environmental benefits that mature trees provide.

We want to help change that—one yard, one tree at a time.

📍 Priority will be given to Murrayville residents until 11 AM. After 11 AM, the giveaway will open to all New Hanover County residents while supplies last.

Attendees may select from the following species:
🌳 Southern live oak
🌿 'Princeton' American elm
🍒 Black cherry
🍁 'October Glory' red maple
🍂 'Brandywine' red maple
🤍 'Bracken's Brown Beauty' southern magnolia
