The organization’s founderslearned that they could onlyprovide goods to foster children as a non-profit organization.There is often no way for children in Delaware’s foster care system to receive the basic goods they may need, such as clothing or personal care items, let alone a special toy, instrument, or athletic equipment. Foster parents are not required to provide gifts, allowances, or anything beyond food and housingIn that first year, FWF granted 19 wishes; now, in our most recently completed fiscal year, FWF granted 1,111 wishes, serving about 400 children annually in Kent, Sussex, and New Castle Counties. All items we provide to foster children are brand new, setting us apart from other organizations.We serve all children in Delaware foster care, supporting the needs of many children who are newly in foster care, as well as providing items to youth who submit their wishes through their Case Worker or CASA. Wishes are available until age 22 if enrolled in extended care with DFS or attending college in Delaware. Wishes are fulfilled at our Little Free Store in Dover.In January 2026, FWF moved to a significantly larger facility that is allowing us to expand our wish-granting capacity. With the new space, FWF also plans to deepen our impact with the launch of financial literacy classes and workforce development programs, providing support as kids in foster care plan for adulthood.
