- **Event Description**: The Conroe Community Cemetery is largely in a maintenance mode and will require an annual or biannual event to tidy it up.
Because of this we have begun a cleanup effort at the New Home Cemetery located west of Willis on Lake Conroe in the Twin Shores Subdivision. The effort will involve moving brush that has already been cut, to the wood chipper on the NE corner of the cemetery much like the early effort at the Conroe Community Cemetery.
As always safety is our first concern. You wont need to bring any chain saws. Hand limb cutters will be useful.
No open toed shoes will be allowed and long pants and long sleeves are recommended.
We will provide drinks and snacks.
Parking will be in the boat launch area of Twin Shores and overflow into the SW corner of the cemetery if its not too wet. The latter is access via the alleyway between 9690 Twin Shores Dr, Willis, TX 77318 and the boat trailer storage area.
The New Home Cemetery is an early African American Cemetery with the earliest known burial in 1908. There was a community started there by Sam Johnson, Sol Johnson, Alex Foote, William Terry and the Straughter family to name a few. The community included the New Home M E Church and a Church of God in Christ.
