Night Sounds of the Appalachians

Just when you think you have heard all the wildlife there is to hear in our forests at night, think again. Kevin Dodge has spent 30 years of his career teaching and studying the ecology, forest birds and other wildlife in Maryland and West Virginia. He and his students have been monitoring Saw Whet Owl migrations since 1991.

Kevin will take us on a journey to experience the sounds of owls, frogs, toads’ insects and some unexpected fauna. He will use only a few slides as he re-enacts the actual calls. His program is fun, and downright hilarious at times. However, all the while you will be learning much about the natural history of the night life in our beloved Appalachian Mountains, including us, here in the foothills.
