Below the Snow

Beneath the snow, there are many animals awaiting the return of spring. Some can be found in the ground, but others are located in the subnivean zone, the area of snow closest to the dirt. This program is designed for children and their families, providing an introduction to this special snow layer.

Participants will begin indoors, transitioning to a guided exploration in the woods. The story Over and Under the Snow will be read aloud and children will participate in an activity to experience what it's like to be a mouse tunneling under the snow. Afterwards, everyone will gear up and head outside to search for signs of burrowing animals along our trails.
