About the event

Yerkes Observatory: 125 Years of History and a Bright Future
Completed in 1897 and still housing the largest refracting telescope in the world, Yerkes Observatory has long been a center for technological wonder and scientific exploration. Dr. Amanda Bauer, Deputy Director and Head of Science and Education at Yerkes, joins us to discuss the Yerkes of the last century and where it is headed today.

Join us on Tuesday, May 27th at 6:30 at The Lodge at Geneva National (formerly known as The Ridge). This event is free, no registration necessary.

About the presenter:

Dr Amanda Bauer is the Deputy Director and Head of Science and Education at Yerkes Observatory, located in Williams Bay, Wisconsin. After growing up in the Midwest, she received her PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Texas at Austin studying how galaxies form, how they live their lives, and how they evolve into the diverse array of galaxy species we see today. Her career has allowed her to live overseas and use some of the world's largest telescopes. As she reimagines the future of Yerkes Observatory, one of America's oldest observatories and the birthplace of astrophysics, Amanda aims to inspire moments of discovery in our everyday lives and keep our skies dark so future generations can look up and see the stars shining overhead.
