Early Literacy Adventures

The Fall program will run from Oct. 20th - Dec. 15th. Every Monday from 9:30-10:30 we will have a story and craft time, and each month we will have a new grab bag full of items and instructions for your Play with a Purpose time. We will also have a calendar and stickers to encourage you to Read and Play.

The goal of this program is to prepare your preschooler for kindergarten and help you to ‘raise a reader.’ To do this, we are encouraging parents/guardians to:

Read for 20 minutes a day
Play with a Purpose for 10 minutes/day

READ - Any reading with your child is perfect! Do they like trucks, dinosaurs, unicorns, Bluey, or Disney stories? The choices are endless so read what they love! While reading, it is important to make sure your child is engaged, so encourage this by pointing to the words as you read them and by having your child point out animals, characters, etc. Ask them questions about what they see including color and shape questions (Where is the YELLOW sun? Do you see the ROUND ball?), as well as asking them context questions about the story (Whose house did Goldilocks go into?).

PLAY WITH A PURPOSE - Playing with a purpose just means adding teaching aspects to playtime.
