Ana Shakti Marquis had an epiphany regarding her food choices in 1985 and has been vegan for almost 40 years. She suffered from depressive episodes as a teen but has been free of symptoms since becoming vegan. She became a therapist as a second career after being a teacher (while raising her children). She has analyzed research, written about and and done workshops on the plantbased diet. She will be speaking on the relationship between the Standard American Diet and the high incidence of mental health challenges, including dementia, substance abuse and eating disorders, in our culture, and how knowledge about the WFPB diet is being integrated into our current behavioral health practices.
