Die Kunsthalle Wien präsentiert die erste Einzelausstellung von Guan Xiao (geb. 1983, Chongqing, China) in Österreich. "Teenager" umfasst eine Reihe völlig neuer Skulpturen und Gemälde und kehrt zu grundlegenden Themen wie Nahrung, Kleidung und Unterkunft zurück, um Fragen des Fortschritts und der Zivilisation, der Tradition und Spiritualität anzusprechen, die im Mittelpunkt des facettenreichen, spielerischen und poetischen Werks von Guan Xiao stehen.

Sophie von Hellermann (geb. 1975, München) hat ein umfangreiches neues Werk auf Leinwand für die 62 Meter lange Vitrine an der Südwestwand der Kunsthalle geschaffen. Von Hellermanns Gemälde zitieren Fakten und Fiktion und schöpfen vielfältig aus Geschichte und Kultur, um weitläufige, narrative Kompositionen zu entwickeln. "Get Your Head Around It" ist eine Hommage an den Schriftsteller, Kybernetiker, Sprachtheoretiker und Musiker Oswald Wiener (geb. 1935, Wien; gest. 2021, Steiermark), bei dem von Hellermann in den 1990er-Jahren an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf Erkenntnistheorie studierte.

Kunsthalle Wien presents the first solo exhibition in Austria by Guan Xiao (b. 1983, Chongqing, China). Comprising an entirely new body of work in sculpture and painting, 'Teenager' returns to fundamental subjects such as food, clothing and shelter to address questions of progress and civilisation, tradition and spirituality that are central to the multi-faceted, playful and poetic work of Guan Xiao.

Sophie von Hellermann (b. 1975, Munich) has created an extensive new work on canvas for the 62-metre vitrine on the south-west wall of the Kunsthalle’s building. Von Hellermann’s paintings quote fact and fiction, drawing diversely from history and culture to develop expansive, narrative compositions. 'Get Your Head Around It' pays tribute to the writer, cybernetician, language theorist and musician Oswald Wiener (b. 1935, Vienna; d. 2021, Steiermark) with whom von Hellermann studied Erkenntnistheorie (epistemology) while at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in the 1990s.
