National Public Lands Day

Wickliffe Mounds State Historic Site is an archaeological site of a village occupied by Native People of the Mississippian culture. To bring awareness of the importance of preserving Kentucky’s archaeological sites and history, and as part of Kentucky Archaeology Month, Wickliffe Mounds is participating in National Public Lands Day, an event held across the U.S. each year. Volunteers are needed to help us preserve the Wickliffe Mounds site for public access, educational opportunities, and interpretive programing. A park clean-up day is planned for Saturday, September 27, 2025. Meet at the welcome center at 9:15 a.m. and be prepared for outdoor work on the trail, picnic area, park entrance, flower beds, and more! The park will provide water, soft drinks and snacks. This would be a great project for Scouts or groups. Please call the park office for more information at 270-335-3681.
